The Sports Club Villa Electoral Commission has confirmed that only one candidate successfully returned nomination forms for the club’s presidential race after the official nomination period closed.
In a statement issued Saturday, the commission’s chairman Brian Kajubi said several members had initially collected nomination forms but only one completed the process before the deadline.
“The Election Commission of Sports Club Villa wishes to inform the general public, registered members, fans, and all stakeholders that the nomination period for the Presidential Elections officially closed on March 5, 2026,” Kajubi said.
According to the commission, five members picked up nomination forms during the nomination window. They include Meywa Farooq, Omar Ahmed Hussein, Dennis Ssebuggwawo Mbidde, Simeon Kawuma Bulezi and Joseph Muguluma Mbazzi, also known as Dennis Misagga, who collected the forms through an agent.
However, Kajubi said only one aspirant fulfilled all the requirements and returned the documents within the stipulated timeframe.
“By close of the submission deadline today March 7, 2026, only one candidate, Mr Omar Ahmed Hussein (110-2025-V170726), returned and submitted duly completed nomination forms and fulfilled all the required conditions,” Kajubi said.
Kajubi added that the candidate’s documentation has been forwarded for the next stage of the electoral process.
“In line with the Sports Club Villa electoral guidelines, the Election Commission has forwarded Mr. Omar’s name and accompanying documents for vetting and further processing,” he said.
The commission said further communication will be issued after the vetting process in line with the club’s electoral roadmap.
“Further communication regarding the vetting outcome and subsequent steps in the electoral roadmap will be issued in due course,” Kajubi said.
The development comes amid growing tensions surrounding the club’s electoral process.
Earlier, club members including Dennis Ssebuggwawo Mbidde, Joseph Muguluma Mbazzi, also known as Dennis Misagga, and Farouq Meywa petitioned the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) seeking the suspension of the elections.
The trio cited alleged electoral irregularities and expressed dissatisfaction with how incumbent club president Hajj Omar Mandela is currently running the affairs of the club.
They have also asked FUFA to take over the management of the club’s affairs in the interim as disputes surrounding the electoral process continue to unfold.
