President Museveni has commended the Commander of the Fisheries Protection Unit, Lieutenant-Colonel Mercy Tukahirwa for standing firm against trade in immature fish within in the country and from the neighbouring South Sudan.

Several stock of immature fish was blocked from South Sudan at Pakwach checkpoint and Elegu boarder point.

In a May 6 letter to Lt Col Tukahirwa, President Museveni noted that he had seen reports regarding how the commander had to deal with "the corrupt traders" that were importing immature fish and the officials that were obstructing his efforts.

"Thank you for standing firm and eventually, proving, through inspection of some samples, that you were right," Mr Museveni wrote.

"The trucks, at both Pakwach and Elegu, were carrying immature fish. Keep up the good work."

The President said  exporters of immature fish are "enemies of Africa whether they know it or not".

"How can you undermine your country?" President Museveni asked.
