Missing special hire driver found dead in Nakaseke
Sonny Serwano Bamujje reportedly transported a client to Luwero but went missing

NATIONAL | Police in Nakaseke District are investigating the death of Sonny Serwano Bamujje, a special hire driver who went missing last week.

The body of the 40-year-old was found in the Kizikibi swamp in Namakata Village, Kito Parish, Kito Subcounty in Nakaseke on Wednesday, May 15.

A day before the discovery of Serwano's body, a message appealing for information about his whereabouts was widely shared on social media.

The message said Serwano had been hired to transport unknown persons to Luwero District but that he had not returned home for six days.

His vehicle, the appeal said, had been found in DR Congo.

Police believe Serwano, who was from  Ndejje Lubugumu Sabahabo in Wakiso District, could have been killed from elsewhere on May 14 and his body was transported and disposed of in the swamp.

“We suspect that the deceased was killed somewhere else and after killing him, the body was taken and dumped in Namakata village, said Savannah Region Police spokesperson Sam Twineamazima.

"We have since established that the deceased was previously reported missing from the Nateete Police Station on May 14.”

Mr Twineamazima said the body was found tied with a rope around the neck, with the deceased's hands tied behind his back and both legs tied together.

The body of the deceased was taken to Nakaseke Hospital for post-mortem examination.
