Lt Gen Andrew Gutti has been sworn in for his second term as the chairman of the General Court Martial.
Gutti was sworn in alongside five new members appointed to the army court. These include; Judge Advocate Colonel Richard Tukachungura who replaces Colonel Gideon Katinda, Brigadier Joseph Arocha, Major Henry Serugo, Captain Topesta Opal and Captain Paul Mugerwa.
Other members sworn in were reappointed into office after their term of office elapsed.
The group will now resume office for a one year term. The court has however been in recess awaiting the groups swearing in.
The group swore to try all matters and administer justice based on evidence without partiality, favor or affection.
These also swore by the principal of non-disclose of opinions of the members of the panel lest required by law.
“The court is now fully constituted to resume hearing all old cases and issuing of production warrants for all suspects before the court who are on remand,” Gutti said upon swearing-in
Every sitting panel constitutes of seven active members, seven on reserve, the judge advocate and prosecutor
Top among cases to be resumed is Boda boda 2010 case involving Patron Abdalla Kitata. The court is also expected to try Gen.Kale Kayihura the former Inspector General of Police who was arrested last month together with a number of senior police officers.
