The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has clarified on a number of complaints regarding the ongoing recruitment of census enumerators and supervisors.

Uganda is set to have its sixth census starting on May 10 until May 20.

Ahead of the 10-day exercise, UBOS last month embarked on countrywide e-recruitment process for 114,460 enumerators and 18,483 supervisors.

However, UBOS executive director Chris Mukiza says they have received numerous complaints regarding the ongoing recruitment exercise, notably from applicants who have not been shortlisted for the national census field work.

Addressing the media on Monday, Mukiza, noted that the statistics body had received complaints that those with qualifications have been excluded and those without genuine qualifications are being shortlisted.

In light of the matter, the UBOS boss instructed that the display of shortlisted candidates be extended to Friday April 12.

“The objective of displaying the shortlist is to ensure that those who were erroneously shortlisted are reported for administrative review,” Mukiza said.

In addition, all those with issues regarding recruitment have been advised to lodge in their complaints with evidence of having applied to be reviewed by the recruitment team at the district who are working closely with UBOS Human Resource team.

Mukiza further revealed that UBOS has been notified of conmen who are calling the applicants to pay Shs100,000 in order to participate in the interview process.

He clarified that the participation in the application is free of charge and that no one should pay money for the same.

“Anybody who asks for money from any shortlisted candidate should be reported to the nearest police station for investigations.” he said.

Meanwhile, UBOS has noted that the census recruitment portal closed on March 22, 2024 and there is no more solicitation of applicants for enumeration supervisors and enumerators.

“The UBOS is an all equal opportunity employer and would like to assure the general public of the utmost transparency in the recruitment processes we undertake,” UBOS said in a statement.
