The State Minister for Planning, Amos Lugoloobi, has claimed that up to 60 percent of the targeted households has been enumerated in the ongoing census exercise.

The National Housing and Population Survey kicked off on May 10 and runs up to May 19, and the government targets to enumerate up to 10.4 million households, from the 7.4 million households in 2014.

This is reported to have been made easy by the use of technology applies in the system.

"The system has worked as expected. It has served its purpose," said the minister while addressing journalists at the Uganda Media Centre on Thursday.

"What is done throughout the day is able to be registered by the system since we are using technology."

The exercise has been going on despite slow start after some enumerators failed to log into the system.

There are only four days to the deadline. The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (Ubos), the agency tasked with curating the national human and demographic survey, is hopeful the targeted households will be reached within the remaining days.

"So far we have met our target, of 10 percent per day," said Ubos executive director Chris Mukiza.

There are however concerns on some districts where the progress has been slow. These include districts such as Mityana, Kasanda, Ssembabule, and Oyam.

Mukiza says "all these are still below 50 percent" and leaders have been asked to "pull their socks" to be able to hit the target.

Districts such as Agago, Budaka, Butambala, Manafwa are some of those that have enumerated over 80 percent of the targeted households.
