The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga on Wednesday met a delegation of Busoga Bishops led by the retired Rev Dr Michael Kyomya to find lasting solutions for the revival of Busoga University which was closed by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).
The closed door meeting in the Speaker's chambers lasted for two hours.
However, reliable sources told The Nile Post that focused on revival of the revamped Busoga University and finding ways of dealing with its challenges.
Late last year, in a bid to streamline the standards of diploma and degree programmes, NCHE closed the university.
The council said the university did not meet the minimum requirements to offer degree courses such as having enough qualified lecturers.
But this move was objected to by the university which dragged government and NCHE to court. The matter is still in court.
Many of the people who attended the meeting declined to reveal details.
But we are told that Kadaga told the delegation that she will do her best to see to it that the university is re-opened. She however did not give any more assurances, according to sources.
Bishop Paul Namainhe, the bishop of Busoga diocese, who was part of the delegation refused to divulge any information.
We understand that the delegation will meet the minister of state for Higher Education, John Chrysostom Muyingo to make their case.
