Former Commandant Special Operations Nixon Agasirwe and eight others charged with kidnapping a former bodyguard to Rwandan President Paul Kagame were today stuck in court at the general court martial after their private lawyers failed to show up at the court.
The court’s chairman Lt. General Andrew Gutti then ordered the group whose lawyers were not in court to contact their lawyers and ensure they are in court at the next date of 26th June 2018.
Former police commandant Nixon Agasirwe who was reporting to court for mention of charges of unlawful of ammunition and kidnap of Rwandan nationals against him and eight others was abandoned in court by his lawyer.
Court was literally stuck with no particular communication on why the lawyers weren’t in court from neither the lawyers nor the accused persons.
State prosecutor in the case Maj. Rafael Mugisha noted “We cannot give court any update regarding the case in the absence of defense lawyers”
The lawyers representing the group include Caleb Alaka, Evans Ochieng, Frank Kanduho and Eron Kizza who are all on private brief.
Lt General Andrew Gutti directed the accused persons to ensure they communicate with their lawyers so they are in court at the next sitting.
It is alleged that on 24th October 2017, the group was found in unlawful possession of four grenades which are ordinarily a monopoly of the defense forces.
They are further alleged to have kidnapped Joel Mutabazi and Jackson kaleemera in October 2013 at Kamengo Mpigi by forceful use of arms.
