No-go-area: Floods cut off Northern Bypass

A section of the Northern Bypass has been rendered impassable following floods culminating from recent heavy rains.

As a result, Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) has closed off a specific section from Sentema North Road across Lubigi Swamp which floods have rendered most impassable.

A statement from UNRA confirmed that the road is being closed off for public safety “as the contractor undertakes emergency works to be able to restore smooth traffic flow.”

“The public is also warned that with the onset of rains, the same situation could re-occur. Therefore, road users are advised to use Mityana road and other connecting roads as alternative routes in the interim,” the statement continues.

Heavy rains that started from around 3 pm last evening flooded several areas in the suburbs of Bwaise, Kiwatule, Kalerwe, parts of Kyebando and several other villages around Kampala. A number of areas remained cut off in the aftermath of the rains triggering protests from residents.
