Wamala Regional Police spokesperson SSP Lameck Kigozi confirmed that the victim succumbed to her injuries the following morning.

"The victim died on July 7, 2026, at around 9:00 a.m. due to injuries sustained during the assault. A murder case has since been registered, and investigations are ongoing as security agencies intensify efforts to arrest the suspect," SSP Kigozi said.

Police officers attached to the Mubende Homicide Squad visited and documented the crime scene before collecting evidence to support investigations.

The victim's body was later taken to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination, while detectives recorded statements from witnesses to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Authorities have appealed to members of the public to provide any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect, who remains on the run.

Condemning the continued rise in domestic violence cases, SSP Kigozi described them as preventable tragedies that continue to destroy families and claim innocent lives.

"Domestic violence remains one of the leading causes of preventable deaths in our communities. Many of these incidents are linked to excessive alcohol consumption, substance abuse, mistrust, poverty, dishonesty, and a lack of mutual respect among couples," he said.

He urged couples to resolve disagreements peacefully and seek guidance from family members, community leaders, religious leaders or counsellors before conflicts escalate into violence.

"We encourage couples to embrace dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution. No disagreement should end in the loss of life," SSP Kigozi added.

Investigations into the murder are ongoing as police continue the search for the suspect.
