Record champions SC Villa’s hopes of winning their maiden StarTimes Uganda Premier League game this season were pushed further after being held to a goalless draw by tax collectors, Uganda Revenue Authority on Tuesday evening.
Having lost their previous encounter with defending champions Viper SC, Moses Basena’s boys came into Tuesday’s game with hopes to recover fast and overcome the hurdle ahead of them by earning their first three points this season but this didn’t come to pass.
Despite an improved performance on the day, their efforts through Mike Sserumaga and Joseph Ssemuju were futile after being denied by former Vipers shot stopper James Alitho who was on form on the day.
The result at Namboole ensured Basena’s Jogoos cum 16 time Ugandan champions will have to wait a little longer for getting a maiden win having collected only three out of the possible 15 this season in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League and languishing in 14th position.
The result on the other side extended URA FC’s unbeaten run with on 9 points in 5th position on the 16 team log.
School boy halt Vipers’ perfect run
In Jinja, Kirinya Jinja SS, also nicknamed the school boys spoilt the party when they halted defending champions Vipers SC’ perfect start to the season.
Going into Tuesday’s game, Vipers had won all the four games they had played and hoped for a smooth ride while in Jinja but this was not the case.
The visitors took the lead through Noah Wafula but the hosts levelled matters through Joel Madondo in the first half.
Meanwhile, there was heartbreak for Kirinya in the 38th minute when they were reduced to 10 men after goalkeeper Did Muhammad was shown marching orders by the centre referee Asadu semere for elbowing goal scorer Noah Wafula.
Vipers were later awarded a penalty that was well converted by Mzee Dan Sserunkuuma to send the Kitende based team up by half time.
The school boys however remained resilient after recess until it finally paid off with another goal from Madondo to level matters and ensured they shared spoils with the defending champions.
Vipers are still on the top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League on 13 points after 5 games whereas KCCA FC are 3 points below with a game in hand.
In the relegation zone, SC Villa, Nyamityobora and Maroons are in 14th, 15th and 16th positions respectively.
