Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has expressed strong opposition to the proposed renaming of Nakivubo Stadium to Hamz Stadium, calling the move “simply inappropriate.”
Lukwago voiced his concerns while he was hosted on NBS SPORT , where he emphasised the historical and cultural significance of Nakivubo Stadium to Uganda’s sports heritage.
“Nakivubo Stadium is not just a sports facility; it is a landmark that holds decades of memories and national pride. Renaming it disregards the history it represents,” Lukwago Stated.
The suggestion to rename the stadium has sparked mixed reactions among the public. While some believe that a new name would signify the stadium’s modernisation and private investment, others, like Lukwago, argue that the original name should be preserved as a tribute to the iconic sports venue’s legacy.
