Leaders at the central government level have been urged to prioritize educating and mobilizing citizens to pay taxes as a key driver of national development.
The call was made by Julius Muheirwe, who represented the Minister for Local Government, Raphael Magezi, during the closing of the Nansana Expo held at Nabweru grounds in Nansana Municipality.
The exhibition attracted a large turnout of parents and children from across the municipality. Various companies and factory owners showcased locally made products, reflecting the area’s expanding industrial and entrepreneurial base.
Accompanied by Deputy Town Clerk Josephine Nabagala, Muheirwe toured exhibition stalls, engaging with exhibitors and commending their contribution to local economic growth.
He stressed the importance of tax compliance, calling on leaders to take a more active role in civic education.
“Leaders must educate and encourage people to pay taxes if we are to achieve meaningful development as a country,” he said.
Muheirwe also urged unity among leaders, warning that internal divisions and conflicts continue to slow down development efforts. He praised the leadership of Nansana for organising the expo, describing it as a platform that promotes innovation, enterprise development, and economic empowerment.
Deputy Town Clerk Josephine Nabagala expressed appreciation to all participating factory owners and companies, as well as stakeholders who contributed resources to ensure the success of the event.
Other leaders in attendance also commended the expo, noting that such initiatives are important in strengthening local businesses, encouraging value addition, and promoting community-driven development.
The event forms part of broader efforts by local authorities to position Nansana as a growing hub for small and medium-sized enterprises within the greater Kampala metropolitan area.
