The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has intensified its grassroots mobilization in Eastern Uganda, with Vice Chairman for the region David Calvin Echodu leading a series of consultative meetings in Bugisu and Bukedi.
Echodu said the engagements were designed to harmonize strategies, strengthen party structures, and consolidate support for President Yoweri Museveni’s 2026–2031 presidential bid.
“The strength of our movement lies in its structures and the people’s trust,” Echodu told leaders. “We must work together, regardless of past differences, to secure the future of our party and our country.”
The gatherings brought together NRM district chairpersons, councillors, and aspirants who lost in party primaries. Echodu urged them to focus on reconciliation and mobilization, cautioning that divisions could weaken the party’s performance in 2026.
“Internal disunity benefits only our opponents,” he warned. “We must rise above factionalism and put the party first.”
Analysts view Echodu’s efforts as vital in addressing grievances from past primaries and regaining the confidence of local leaders who remain central to NRM’s grassroots mobilization.
The Bugisu region, long considered an NRM stronghold, is expected to play a decisive role in shaping the party’s fortunes in the coming polls.
