NRM youth MP primaries for Northern Uganda postponed after candidate drags party to court

The National Resistance Movement primaries for youth Member Parliament for Northern Uganda have been ordered postponed after one of the contestants dragged the party to court for denominating him.

In a letter from the NRM EC chairman, Returning Officers for Northern Uganda Districts and other aspiring members were informed of the postponement.

“While the legal team prepares to respond to verbatim contained in the suit, the commission wishes to inform returning officers and the aspiring candidates that the election for Youth Member of Parliament for Northern Uganda is hereby indefinitely postponed as per court order pending determination of the suit,” the letter reads.

On October 6, a letter from NRM EC’s John Arimpa announced the party was denominated two candidates namely; Abdul George of Northern Uganda and Mercelina Busomoke who was contesting for National Youth MP

Arimpa did no delve into reason why the party chose to denominate the two contestants, however, Nile Post understands that Abdul was allegedly culpable for age alteration.

According to a petition from a One Patrick Odongkara, Abdul already participated in elections of NRM youth primaries in 2015, at the time aged 29.

It is therefore not possible that he is still youth.

“The respondent earlier in 2015, secured nomination and contested for the NRM flag bearer, Youth MP elections for Northern Uganda at all material times uttering and declaring, inter-alia his date of birth as October 6, 1986” Mr Odongkara’s petition reads in part.
