The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has expressed concern over reports of people being arrested by security agencies in Butambala, saying the situation has created fear among Kabaka’s subjects.
Speaking during Eid al-Fitr prayers at Kabasanda Mosque in Butambala, Mayiga called for unity and dialogue instead of conflict.
“The arrests being carried out by security agencies have left Kabaka’s people living in fear. There is need for dialogue rather than pulling in different directions, as guided by the Kabaka in his Eid message,” Mayiga said.
He emphasized that political misunderstandings should not divide communities, urging leaders to embrace peaceful engagement.
“Leaders must promote unity because bad politics only destabilizes societies,” he added.
During the same event, district Khadi Sheikh Sowedi Lutwama urged Muslims to care for those around them, especially the vulnerable.
“Let us prioritize looking after the people we live with, not only those we are closely connected to,” Lutwama preached.
Meanwhile, Hajji Sulaiman Magala, the Kabaka’s representative in the area, said residents are living in fear due to the alleged abductions.
“People in Butambala are living in constant fear because of these security-related arrests,” Magala noted.
Mayiga also called upon Muslims to maintain the discipline and values observed during Ramadan and avoid actions that oppress others.
“As we conclude Ramadan, let us continue living by its principles and avoid acts that harm fellow citizens,” he said.
He concluded by thanking the Muslim community of Kabasanda for maintaining and developing mosque land, and encouraged them to remain loyal and organized under the Kabaka’s leadership.
