Preparations are in high gear as Kitagwenda District readies itself to host President Museveni on Saturday, as part of his presidential campaign trail.
Among the key expectations ahead of the visit is the long-awaited fulfillment of the Kitagwenda–Ibanda–Kamwenge road tarmacking pledge, a commitment residents say has remained unfulfilled since 2011.
According to the Electoral Commission’s presidential campaign roadmap, the President will address a major rally in Kitagwenda before proceeding to Fort Portal for another engagement later in the day.
Local leaders and residents hope this visit will finally bring clarity and renewed commitment to the infrastructure promise. They emphasize that while they are prepared to welcome the President warmly, the road remains their biggest concern.
Community leaders recall that the pledge was first made during the 2011–2016 campaign period, but despite repeated reminders, no substantial progress has been registered.
“This is the right time for the President to address the pledge he made. People have waited long enough,” a local leader noted.
Kitagwenda District NRM Chairperson Nathan Mushana confirmed that preparations for the visit are nearly complete. He emphasized that residents are eager not only to receive the President but also to hear him speak directly on the stalled road project.
“Almost everything is ready. We are just waiting for the President to come so that we show him massive support,” Mushana said, adding that the organizing committee has worked tirelessly to ensure a smooth and impactful event.
He also noted that this visit presents an opportunity to remind the President of his original commitment.
“This is the time to again address the President about the pledge he made,” Mushana stressed.
Kitagwenda has consistently been one of President Museveni’s strongest support bases. In the previous general election, the President secured 86% of the district’s vote.
Local NRM leaders believe he will perform even better this time, citing increased mobilization and what they describe as growing trust in his leadership.
According to Mushana, a large crowd is expected at the rally.
“We anticipate over 20,000 supporters to attend. Kitagwenda is ready,” he emphasized.
As the district awaits the President’s arrival, hopes remain high that the long-delayed road project, seen as crucial for economic activity and service delivery, will finally receive the attention residents have been waiting for over a decade.
