American Hotel School Partners with HTTC in Jinja  to Certify Uganda Hospitality Trainers

A total of 29 tourism and hospitality educators have been certified by the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI), thanks to the latter’s partnership with the Jinja-based Hotel and Tourism Training Institute (HTTC), formerly Uganda Hotel and Tourism Training Institute (UHTTI).

AHLEI is a global leader in hospitality education, training and certification providing a range of resources, including online learning, professional certification and educational materials for the hospitality industry.

It also offers programs and certificates that enable academic institutions to prepare high school and college students for hospitality careers.

The lead trainer and Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE), Pretorius Ruchelle, in an interview with this website, said the weeklong training that concluded on Friday, October 24th, aimed at plugging gaps in hospitality education and enabling instructors integrate ICT in tourism and hospitality education.

“The training aims at standardizing hospitality education globally and enabling instructors to meet training objectives,” Ruchelle said.

She commended the trainees for the commitment and zeal towards learning, saying that the skills they have attained will help transform hospitality education in the country.

One of the trainees from HTTC, Allyn Zalwango, said the training equipped them with modern day content presentation methodologies that will enable them become better hospitality trainers.

“The training implies that we are now internationally recorgnized tourism and hospitality education trainers who can even ply our trade beyond the borders of this country,” Zalwango said.

In a related development, Denis Kanaabi, a Housekeeping and Culinary Art instructor, said he has acquired new training methodologies, thanks to the AHLEI training.

“The training has been blended with both online and physical classes and has furnished us with new teaching methodologies and philosophies which will make us better educators,” Kanaabi said.

The training was attended by instructors from several tourism and hospitality training institutions across the country, including Makerere University Business School (MUBS), Uganda Christian University (UCU), Nkumba University and the host institution HTTC.
