The Democratic Front Electoral Commission has scheduled August 26 and 27 as the nomination dates for the party's aspiring candidates from the Masaka subregion.

The party's Electoral Commission Chairperson and Secretary for Mobilization, Henry Lubowa, announced the development while addressing the media at the party headquarters in Namirembe.

Lubowa explained that the two-day exercise, which will run on Tuesday and Wednesday next week, will cover all districts that make up Greater Masaka. These include Masaka City, Masaka Rural, Kalungu, Lwengo, Kyotera, Rakai, Lyantonde, Bukomansimbi, and Ssembabule.

After Greater Masaka, the commission will move to the Acholi subregion on Friday next week to nominate aspiring candidates from Acholi, Lango, and West Nile, according to Mr. Lubowa.

He further noted that the nomination exercise is expected to close by the end of this month to give party branches ample time to scrutinize the nominated candidates and select the best flag bearers to present to the National Electoral Commission.

These announcements came on the sidelines of today’s nomination exercise at the party headquarters, where a large number of aspiring candidates turned up.

More than 20 aspirants from the Teso subregion were nominated, many of them defectors from NRM and FDC, seeking the party’s endorsement for various local government positions such as sub-county chairpersons, town council mayors, and councilors. The Teso delegation was led by the party's Deputy President for Eastern Region, who is also contesting for the Soroti East parliamentary seat on the DF ticket.

Additionally, over 10 aspirants from Butambala District, led by Nakiboneka Faridah, who is vying for the position of District Chairperson, were nominated.

The commission also received interest forms and nominated several aspirants from Luweero, led by Ronald Kasagga Bazannyanengo, who is contesting the Katikamu North parliamentary seat.

According to Lubowa, the commission received 44 interest forms today at the party headquarters.

“We have confirmed 839 candidates who will represent the Democratic Front in different positions – from Members of Parliament, mayors, and other local government seats. This is a clear sign that our party is growing and that people still believe in the vision of the Democratic Front. I call upon all those approved to work together, to cooperate closely, and to listen to the party because our strength lies in unity,” he said.
