The Kampala Metropolitan Police have strongly dismissed as false and malicious a video circulating on social media, particularly TikTok, which falsely claims that Division Police Commander (DPC) Katwe, Superintendent of Police David Kamugira, has died along Salama Road.
The police have moved swiftly to reassure the public that these reports are entirely untrue. "We would like to categorically state that this information is false, misleading, and malicious.
Superintendent Kamugira is alive, safe, and continues to diligently perform his duties in Katwe Division," said ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Police Spokesman for Kampala Metropolitan.
He emphasised that Kamugira remains in good health and is fully committed to addressing the ongoing security challenges in the region.
The video’s creators appear to have a clear intent to undermine the efforts of DPC Kamugira, particularly his work in combating gang-related crimes in the Katwe Division. These criminal activities, which have occasionally been linked to local musicians, have been a central focus of Kamugira’s leadership.
ASP Owoyesigyire further stated, "It is clear that the creators of this video have intentions known only to themselves.
However, it appears their aim is to undermine the work of the DPC, particularly his efforts in combating gang-related crimes in the area, crimes that have in some instances been linked to individuals who are Musicians."
The police have reassured the public that they will not be deterred by these unfounded claims and remain focused on their duties.
"We wish to assure the public that these baseless claims will not deter the DPC or the Uganda Police Force from executing their mandate," ASP Owoyesigyire affirmed.
Investigations are currently underway to identify and hold accountable those responsible for the video.
