Attorney General, Kiryowa Kiwanuka, has expressed deep concern over the growing misconduct of government surveyors involved in fraudulent activities such as double titling cases and fraudulent surveys
He has also revealed the government is considering holding surveyors and other land officials accountable who are found to be involved in fraudulent land activities.
This move aims to curb corruption and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
Kiwanuka made these remarks while presiding over the Institution of Surveyors of Uganda's 9th Pre-AGM conference in Entebbe.
He emphasized the need for cooperation between the government and surveyors to curb corruption and professional misconduct.
"Government is like the final arbiter in any issue... We both need to work together and end mushrooming issues of professional misconduct," he stated.
Kiwanuka also highlighted the critical role surveyors play in explaining what is right and wrong to landowners. "The surveyor has a duty to explain what is right and what is wrong," he added.
The conference ran under the theme: “Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation: Harnessing the Potential of the Surveying Profession to the Natural Resources and Environmental Management” will address several concerns including Understanding climate change from the Land, water management, and construction perspectives.
The President of the Institution of Surveyors of Uganda, Alozius Gonza, reiterated the need for surveyors to address climate-related challenges.
We are having a lot of climate issues in Uganda, in recent days we have had extreme temperatures, floods during the rainy season. So, there’s a need to look for mitigation measures to solve these issues”
Surveyors also discussed the impact of climate change from land, water management, and construction perspectives.
