Four senior officials from Mitooma District who were arrested over allegations of selling government jobs have been released on bond as investigations continue.
The officials include the District Chief Administrative Officer, Joanita Nakityo; the District Health Officer, Dr. Sadic Mugisha; the District Service Commission Chairperson, Sam Karakuza; and the Senior Education Officer, Richard Nabimanya. They were picked up last week by security operatives attached to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit.
Confirming the development, the unit’s spokesperson, Mariam Natasha, said the suspects were granted bond to allow for further inquiries into the matter.
“The suspects were released on bond as investigations into the allegations continue. We shall provide a comprehensive update once the process is complete,” Natasha stated.
The officials are accused of being involved in the alleged sale of government jobs, a practice that has drawn concern from authorities due to its impact on transparency and fairness in public service recruitment.
Meanwhile, security agencies have intensified efforts to apprehend other suspects still at large. Among those on the run is Esther Owarimpa, a Parish Chief and LC3 Councillor of Kashenshero Sub-county in Mitooma District, who is alleged to have extorted money from job applicants by falsely promising them employment.
“Operations are ongoing to ensure that all individuals implicated in this matter are brought to book,” Natasha added.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to fighting corruption in public service, warning that those found culpable will face the full force of the law
