Salam TV's popular health talk show, "Salam Obulamu," recently featured Dr. Kalinaki Abubakar, an ophthalmologist at Diopta Eye Care Center, in a discussion on the importance of routine eye check-ups. The show, hosted by Mariam Businge, aimed to educate viewers on maintaining good eye health and preventing eye diseases.

Dr. Kalinaki emphasized that routine eye check-ups are essential for all ages, starting from as early as 2 months to 5-8 years, and adults. He highlighted that regular check-ups can help detect eye diseases early, manage vision correction, identify other health issues, and maintain overall well-being. "Prevention is better than a cure," Dr. Kalinaki stressed.

The ophthalmologist specifically mentioned common eye diseases that can be intervened with early detection, including:

Cataracts, Diabetic retinopathy, Glaucoma & Age-related Macular degeneration (AMD)

Dr. Kalinaki encouraged people with non-communicable diseases, such as diabetes, to have at least one eye check-up. He recommended that routine eye check-ups can be done at least every 2-3 years for people with no underlying conditions.

Mariam Businge, the show host, emphasized that Salam TV Uganda brings several medical professionals from different fields every Wednesday at 8 pm to equip viewers with the right health information and resources. Viewers can access the show and other health information on Salam TV Uganda's digital assets and the Afro mobile streaming platform.
