Julius Mucunguzi named new EC public relations head
Renowned journalist and academic Julius Mucunguzi has been appointed as the head of public relations and communication at the Electoral Commission.
"Following a rigorous selection process conducted last year, Mr Mucunguzi Julius emerged as the top candidate for the position of Head of Public Relations at the Electoral Commission," stated Bukenya, theCommission's principal public relations officer.

As head of public relations, Mucunguzi will be thea spokesperson for the institution and tasked with handling media relations, digital communications, voter and civic education, and stakeholder engagements.
More importantly for an institution that is always at the centre of national affairs during election period such as this the country is approaching, Mucunguzi will handle crisis communications, corporate communications, internal communications, branding and reputation management.
Consequently, a formal letter of appointment has been issued to Mucunguzi, and he is set to assume his responsibilities on April 1.
"We extend a warm welcome to Mr Mucunguzi as he joins the Electoral Commission family, and we wish him great success in his new role," added Bukenya.
Mucunguzi previously worked as a communication specialist at the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) during Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda's tenure.
His appointment comes at a time when the electoral body is actively recruiting new personnel to replace retirees and strengthen its preparations for the 2026 elections.
Before his current appointment, Mucunguzi served as the spokesperson for Africa at the Commonwealth Secretariat, an international intergovernmental organization accountable for 53 former British colonies.
In 2006, he joined the Commonwealth Secretariat after serving as a senior communications officer at World Vision Uganda.
Additionally, Mucunguzi has taught journalism at Makerere University's Department of Mass Communication.
His journalism career began in the early 1990s at The Monitor newspaper.
