The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) Ltd has officially handed over the newly constructed Nyamasoga–Katooke Road to Hoima District authorities, marking a significant milestone under its Socio-Economic Investment (SEI) programme.
The 7.5-kilometre marram road, located in Buseruka Sub-county in Hoima District, connects the villages of Kayera and Katooke, serving an estimated 6,500 residents across more than 600 households. The road enhances connectivity to the Kaiso–Tonya Highway and improves access to key trading centres such as Nyamasoga and Buseruka.
The project was implemented in partnership with Hoima City following a request from district leadership to address transport challenges in the area. Prior to its rehabilitation, the road was reportedly in poor condition and often impassable by vehicles, limiting access to markets, schools, health facilities and other essential services.
Speaking during the handover ceremony held at Katooke Trading Centre, EACOP Deputy Managing Director Mr JB Habumugisha said EACOP is committed to impacting communities.
"EACOP's socio-economic investment initiatives are designed to create lasting positive impacts that strengthen the resilience and wellbeing of our host communities. Roads like this one play a vital role in connecting people to opportunities and unlocking local economic growth," he said.
Habumugisha reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting sustainable community development along the pipeline route.
“EACOP remains committed to ensuring that the communities along the pipeline route benefit from improved infrastructure and social services. This road project demonstrates our dedication to supporting local development priorities in partnership with government authorities,” Habumugisha said.
He noted that the road links residents to critical facilities including Kabaale Health Centre II, Nyamasoga Food Market and the Kaiso–Tonya Highway, which are vital for trade and social services in the area.
Mr Rodgers Mbabazi, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Hoima District, commended EACOP for its continued collaboration and investment in local infrastructure.
He said such partnerships are instrumental in advancing development and improving the quality of life for residents.
The road was officially handed over to Mr Mbabazi in a ceremony attended by local councillors, the Chief Administrative Officer and community members.
EACOP’s SEI programme focuses on initiatives aimed at strengthening livelihoods and improving infrastructure in communities along the pipeline corridor.
According to company officials, projects such as the Nyamasoga–Katooke Road are designed to create lasting socio-economic impact by enhancing mobility, stimulating trade and improving access to essential services.
Contractor Fulcrum Consult Ltd executed the works.
With the road now complete, residents are expected to benefit from improved transport, expanded business opportunities and easier access to health, education and market facilities—an outcome local leaders say will contribute to sustained economic growth in the area.
