Ugandan Bikers Embark on European Ride to Promote 'Brand Uganda'
The initiative, led by the Uganda Bikers Association in partnership with the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), will see the riders travel through seven European countries, including Italy, France, Switzerland, Austria, Liechtenstein, and Germany.

In a bold tourism marketing initiative aimed at showcasing Uganda on the global stage, a team of Ugandan bikers has embarked on a month-long road expedition across Europe to promote the country’s tourism potential, cultural heritage, and adventure experiences.

The initiative, led by the Uganda Bikers Association in partnership with the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), will see the riders travel through seven European countries, including Italy, France, Switzerland, Austria, Liechtenstein, and Germany.

The bikers were officially flagged off during the closing activities of the Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo (POATE) 2026 in Munyonyo, an event that tourism stakeholders described as marking a new chapter in experiential destination marketing.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, UTB Chief Executive Officer Juliana Kagwa praised the bikers for volunteering to serve as ambassadors for Uganda abroad.

“We are here to collaborate and coordinate efforts on exporting a brand called Explore Uganda,” Kagwa said. “On behalf of the Uganda Tourism Board and every citizen you will be representing as you ride through Europe, we want to say thank you for taking our flag and accepting to fly it high.”

She described the initiative as an innovative, citizen-driven approach to tourism promotion, noting that modern marketing increasingly relies on storytelling, authenticity, and lived experiences rather than traditional advertising alone.

Tourism advocate and biker Tony Otoa said the association deliberately chose Europe as its next frontier after years of riding across Africa.

“Uganda Bikers is a group of very responsible riders who have ridden across Africa for years,” Otoa said. “This time around, we said, why don't we go to Europe? Why don't we shock those foreigners? Instead of sitting in conventional conferences, let’s go with our bikes and tell them we are here.”

He added that the mission goes beyond adventure, emphasizing that the riders are using their professional networks and digital platforms to amplify Uganda’s visibility internationally.

“Riding is our passion, and sending Uganda to the world is our passion,” he noted.

The delegation includes professionals from diverse sectors, including corporate executives, lawyers, entrepreneurs, and creatives, all united by a shared ambition to reposition Uganda as a premium tourism destination.

Officials say the campaign aligns with Uganda’s broader tourism strategy of increasing high-value international arrivals through experiential travel, adventure tourism, cultural immersion, and authentic African experiences.

As the bikers begin their journey across Europe carrying Uganda’s flag, stakeholders believe the expedition could become one of the country’s most memorable tourism marketing activations, demonstrating a new model where destinations are promoted through direct engagement and lived storytelling.
