The Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities has released a plan intended to upgrade the Source of the Nile into a world class tourism centre.
The upgrade will cost Shs 200 billion.
The plan was released during a stake holders meeting in Jinja.
Vianney Lyazi, the assistant commissioner in charge of tourism, said a number of private developers had encroached on the land
He said government now owns only 5 acres of land at the source of the Nile.
He pointed out that some of the features that will be constructed on this tourist site include a hotel, an exhibition ground and other relevant infrastructure.
Dr Kosea Wambaka who led the research team that carried feasibility studies at the site revealed that due to encroachment on government land by private individuals a lot of funds will be spent to relocate people.
The development which is expected to be implemented on both sides of the river banks has been welcomed with mixed reactions among local leaders.
