An 86 year old man known as Thomas was yesterday found dead in his bedroom in Habitat Cell in Kasese Municipality.
at the time of his death, Thomas was living with his 9 year old daughter after his wives and children abandoned him.
Harriet Kabugho the 9 year old daughter of the deceased said his father had gone to sleep as usual after eating supper.
But later, he had strange sounds in the bedroom and when she opened the door she saw him dangling on the rope. She tried to rescue him but it was too late.
She said she later called for help from the neighbours but there is little they could do.
Thomas used to do petty jobs for survival. He would fetch water for people and slash people's compounds.
Yokas Mubunga, the LC 1 chairman of the cell described the deceased as a hardworking man adding that he could have become stressed after his wives and older children abandoned him.
He said on several occasions the deceased had reported cases of people threatening to grab his plot of land on which he lived, and according to the chairman this issue coupled with the stress of being abandoned by the daughters and wives could triggered the act of suicide.
