Tororo MPs clash at burial over calls to unite

MPs from Tororo district yesterday clashed at the burial ceremony of Keserina Ofwono, the mother of Apollo Yeri Ofwono, the MP Tororo municipality after they disagreed on calls to unite.

Drama unfolded after the function’s master of ceremony, Tanga Odoi the chairperson of the NRM electoral commission invited MPs present to address the mourners.

The first MP to speak, Peter Ogwang , from Osuk expressed his disappointment with the division in the district, calling upon the MPs to unite.

But Annet Nyaketcho the Tororo County North MP rubbished Ogwang's call.

"Unite over what?" she queried.

This prompted a swift reaction from Oboth Oboth, the West Budama South MP who hit back at Nyaketcho saying that Tororo comprises many ethnic groups and therefore shouldn’t be divided along tribal lines.

There have been clashes between the Itesot and Japdhola in Tororo over control of resources.

The state minister for Health Sarah Opendi together with the Bishop of Bukedi Diocese Rev. Samuel Bugere Engessa advised the MPs to instead work together towards developing the district.

The burial that took place in Angorom village, Osukuru Sub County was attended by multitudes of the people from all walks of life.
