President Museveni has commended local and foreign investors for transforming the economy of this country.
Museveni made the remarks while commissioning a $15 million milk processing plant in Kiruhura district.
The plant, Vito Tomosi, is co-owned by Israeli investors and Odrek Rwabwogo.
Museveni said Uganda is rich country but people are always “asleep”.
"This is one of the fruits of our sensitisation efforts dating back to 1966 when Mwesigwa Black and I, started to dissuade our parents and community from the practices of nomadism and subsistence cattle keeping. The mindset at the time was largely pre-capitalist but we took a lesson from the exposure we had at school in Mbarara and brought the knowledge back home," Museveni said.
Museveni also commended Odrek Rwabwogo and his wife, Patience, for adding value to the milk that had lost market in Kiruhura district.
The factory that will process 100,000 litres of milk per day will also make yoghurt, powdered milk among others. It will directly employ 70 workers and 100 workers indirectly.
"I am pleased to see such partnerships and hope that more of the same can be fostered in different parts of the country, especially with focus on value-addition to agricultural produce," he said.
Besides processing milk, Rwabwogo and his family are planning on setting up a meat processing plant.
The meat processing plant, scheduled to start in June, will be established in Nshara 30kms away from Vito Tomosi milk plant in Rushere.
Some of processed meat will exported to China and remaining sold on the local market.
