NUP Holds Prayer Service at Kavule in Honour of Late MP Nakimuli
The National Unity Platform gathered at its Makerere Kavule headquarters for a prayer and thanksgiving service celebrating the life and legacy of the late Kalangala District MP Helen Nakimuli, whose sudden passing has drawn tributes from across the political spectrum.

The National Unity Platform (NUP) on Tuesday held a prayer and thanksgiving service at its party headquarters in Makerere Kavule to honour the life, service, and legacy of the late Member of Parliament for Kalangala District, Helen Nakimuli.

The ceremony was intended to reflect on Nakimuli’s contribution to Parliament, her strong advocacy for transparency and accountability, and her commitment to representing the people of Kalangala throughout her time in office.

Nakimuli passed away on Sunday at Alexandra Medical Centre following complications arising from an unsuccessful surgical procedure.

Her death has since triggered an outpouring of tributes from leaders across the political divide.

Earlier in the week, her body was taken to Parliament, where a special sitting was held in her honour as legislators paid tribute to her service and dedication to national duty.

At the Kavule headquarters, party leaders, Members of Parliament, local council representatives, and supporters gathered for prayers, reflection, and celebration of her life.

The event attracted nearly all NUP-elected legislators, alongside senior party officials and supporters who came together to mourn and honour her memory.

Speakers at the service described Nakimuli as a principled and committed leader who consistently championed the rights of her constituents and upheld accountability in public service.

Gyaviira Lubowa said, “She was one of the most down-to-earth leaders we have worked with, very humble, respectful, and easy to approach.”

Other leaders highlighted her calm nature and respectful engagement with colleagues, noting that she remained approachable despite her position in leadership.

They emphasized that her legacy would continue to inspire both the party and future leaders, particularly in the areas of service delivery, accountability, and grassroots representation.

The prayer service forms part of ongoing commemorations for the late legislator as the country continues to mourn her passing and reflect on her contribution to public life.
