Members of parliament have urged Ministry of health to increase stock of condoms ahead of the festival season.
The call was made by Mbale municipality legislator, Jack Wamanga Wamai during a plenary session led by speaker Rebecca Kadaga.
Wamanga told parliament that there is a red flag raised by social workers, NGOs and rotary international that ministry of health has not imported enough condoms to defend the excited Ugandans.
“Madam speaker, you know December is a very busy month and during this month, there are so many excited holiday makers swinging in all directions left and right without using ‘shields’ which could be a health problem in the health sector,” Wamanga said.
Kadaga ordered the line minister to tell the house why they have not stocked enough condoms ahead of this festival season.
State minister for health Sarah Opendi admitted that “it is true this is Christmas season but we normally give health messages on social media, Radios, and electronic media.”
“However, we call upon the youth not to engage in sexual behaviours and limit on the consumption of alcohol which may tempt them to be sexually active. But as ministry of health, we shall make sure that we supply adequate condoms especially in Mbale municipality where Jack Wamanga is the area MP.”
The concern comes after permanent secretary for finance Keith Muhakanizi, came out boldly stating that live sex has killed the economy.
