Presidential aspirant Noah Dennis Mubiru has urged fellow 2026 presidential candidates to embrace unity, forgiveness, and reconciliation, proposing that Uganda fields a single candidate in the upcoming elections.
In a letter addressed to other aspirants and political parties, including National Resistance Movement (NRM) , Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) , National Unity Platform (NUP) and the People's Front for Freedom(PFF) Mubiru said Uganda’s political history has been marked by disunity and repeated cycles of leadership change that yield similar results.
He argued that the principle of “the winner takes all” has hindered the country’s development and created an environment where incoming leaders often repeat the mistakes of their predecessors.
“It is my humble and honest call that we ought not to go into the full-scale presidential elections as individuals, but rather we embrace unity by sitting together and adopt the manifesto of Forgiveness, Reconciliation and Restart,” Mubiru wrote.
He emphasized that this approach would allow Uganda to “reset our trajectory and start afresh on a new slate,” where all former and current leaders work collectively without fear of prosecution or loss.
Mubiru also suggested that funds typically spent on election campaigns could instead be redirected to social services, such as constructing classroom blocks under the Universal Primary and Secondary Education programs and upgrading government health centers.
The aspirant’s proposal signals a push for a collaborative political approach in Uganda’s 2026 elections, prioritizing national development over individual political ambitions.
