EC pleads no money to hold elections for newly created districts

Elections for the six newly created districts may not happen because of budgetary constraints. The Electoral Commission says it does not have money to conduct the long awaited elections.

EC's comment came after a section of legislators wondered when elections for the six new districts will be held. The elections, by law, are supposed to be held 60 days after creation of the district.

Preparations by potential candidates in the new districts that include Bugweri, Kapelebyong, Kasanda, Kwania, Nabilatuk and Kikube are already underway. The EC is yet to release an electoral road map.
