In a significant step towards improving sanitation and hygiene in schools, State Minister in the Office of the Vice-President, Diana Mutasingwa, commissioned new amenities at Lweru Secondary School in Buikwe District.
The amenities, including a teachers' quarter and sanitation facilities, were funded and implemented by the Ministry of Water and Environment.
"Proper facilities like these help prevent disease, keep our children in school, and improve their overall well-being," Mutasingwa said.
She emphasized the importance of investing in improved sanitation, noting that it is essential for achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6), which aims to ensure clean water and sanitation for all.
The commissioning of the new toilets is a testament to the government's commitment to improving the quality of education and the overall well-being of students in Uganda.
By providing access to clean and safe sanitation facilities, the government is helping to prevent the spread of diseases, reduce absenteeism, and improve academic performance.
As Minister Mutasingwa aptly put it, "Investing in improved sanitation is investing in the future of our children."
This initiative is a step in the right direction towards achieving a healthier, more educated, and more prosperous future for Uganda's youth.
