Mother arrested for burning two daughters over theft of bean sauce

Police in Nakasongola have arrested a  27 year old woman for allegedly burning her two daughters for stealing bean sauce.

Justine Namuwonge, a resident of Kyabutaika, Kakooge town council in Nakasongola district is alleged to have burnt her two biological daughters including six year old Fatuma Nagenda and four year old Hajara Nassuuna, both pupils of Kamukamu Nursery school in Kakooke for allegedly stealing sauce.

“Preliminary information indicates that at around at 2pm Namuwonge lit a charcoal stove and burnt the hands of her children after alleging that they have stolen the sauce,” said the Savannah regional police spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Sam Twiineamazima.

He said after burning her daughters, Namuwonge kept them at home without taking them to hospital for medication.

However, police was informed of this state of affairs by one Resty Kwagala, a teacher and resident of Namunsaala zone in Kakooge town council leading to the arrest of Namuwonge.

According to police, a case of torture has been opened against the 27 year old mother and statements have been recorded from witnesses.

“The victims have been admitted to Kakooge health centre III for medication whereas the suspect is currently detained at Kakooge police station as investigations continue.”
