The Senior Presidential Advisor on Diaspora Affairs, Amb. Abbey Walusimbi has interested a delegation of Russian investors to explore opportunities in the country’s marine industry.
The group of investors from Inkas and Aksum companies based in Russia and Dubai respectively are in the country for a fact-finding mission of the opportunities they can tap into, following an earlier interaction with Walusimbi at the Dubai Expo.
“The group which is led by Sviatoslay Plekhin is here to look at opportunities and also find ways of improving and stimulating Uganda's water transport sector, by establishing an assembling and manufacturing plant of some boats, ships and other water vessels,” Walusimbi said.
He made the remarks while leading the delegation to meet with the Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Vincent Ssempijja and officials from the UPDF led by the Deputy Chief of Defence Forces, Lt Gen Peter Elwelu.
The meeting was also aimed at discussing ways of improving and strengthening UPDF services on Uganda’s water bodies as well as improve security.
Amb. Walusimbi emphasized the need for different sectors to work together to achieve sustainable peace and security in the country.
“Sustainable peace cannot be achieved when different sectors don't work together and several programs can be used to reduce conflict, violent extremism and insecurity in Uganda, East African region, Great Lakes region and the Horn of Africa,” he noted.
During the meeting, the Minister Vincent Ssempijja applauded President Museveni for appointing Amb. Walusimbi who he said has done a tremendous work in boosting the country’s investment sector through bringing into the country a number of potential investors.
Ssempijja said he will take it upon himself to ensure that the investors are given all the support they need in setting up an assembling and manufacturing plant of the different water vessels.
The Deputy Chief of Defense Forces, Lt. Gen. Peter Elwelu welcomed the ideas and promised to collaborate.
Lt Gen Elwelu recommended for a second meeting to guide the implementation of the wonderful projects.
On his part, the managing partner for Aksum Marine, Sviatoslav Plekhin appreciated the country’s great hospitality and the opportunities that the country offers that favor investment to thrive.
