Police have successfully foiled an attempted cattle raid in Karenga District, recovering 14 stolen cows. The incident occurred in Sarachom Parish, Lobalangit Subcounty.
According to eyewitnesses, an unspecified number of warriors stormed the kraal of 60-year-old Patrick Lokwang, a renowned kraal leader in Karenga, in an attempt to steal livestock.
Mike Longole, Karamoja Police Spokesperson, stated that the Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF) and Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) personnel launched an operation immediately upon receiving a call about the stolen animals.
"The operation involved a section of security forces laying an ambush ahead while others tracked the stolen cattle," Longole said. "The criminals, unfortunately, managed to escape, but they left the cattle behind."
Police confirmed that the recovered cattle will be handed over to their rightful owners.
