Police have said preliminary investigations have ruled out claims the woman whose body was found dumped along the Northern bypass was attacked while jogging.
The body of the unidentified lady made rounds on social media over the weekend, with commentators saying she was attacked in the wee hours of the morning while jogging.
However, police spokesperson, Kituuma Rusoke told journalists on Monday that preliminary investigations have indicated the deceased is identified as Agnes Nantongo, a resident of Matugga in Wakiso district and was the Manager of African Oil Petrol Station in Bweyogerere.
“Our preliminary investigations indicate that the clothes the body was found in are the same she was wearing the following day at her workstation. We therefore don’t want to conclude to she was jogging. You might find she was killed elsewhere and body dumped along the by bypass,” Rusoke said.
He however noted that investigations are ongoing to arrest the suspects.
A number of people have complained of the security and safety along the Northern bypass, owing to a number of attacks of people using the route.
The police spokesperson however noted the challenge they have in dealing with the new trend of crime.
“The criminals no longer use weapons but bare knuckles. The criminal will bypass police carrying out patrol and a few minutes later, he will punch a victim to death. Fighting that criminal is not a walk in the park. That is the intricacy that we have as police in dealing with the current crime.”
He however said police have continued to carry out operations targeting criminals along the Northern bypass and a number of them have been arrested, arraigned before courts of law and sent to prison.
“The challenge is that they are sentenced, they serve and return to resume from where they stopped. “
