Vivo Energy Uganda is set to undertake a three-day strategic visit to Uganda’s Albertine Graben oil and gas development areas from October 21 to 23, 2025, in a move aimed at deepening collaboration across the petroleum value chain and positioning itself as a key player in the country’s energy transition.
The delegation, led by Managing Director Mrs. Joanita Mukasa Menya, who also chairs the Sustainable Energies and Petroleum Association of Uganda (SEPA-U), will tour the Tilenga and Kingfisher oil projects, Kabalega Industrial Park, Hoima City Stadium, and key infrastructure linked to Uganda’s oil production journey.
Mrs. Menya said the visit comes at a defining moment for the country’s oil and gas sector.
“With the great strides the country has made towards the preparation of first oil production, Uganda's emerging oil and gas sector is now at a defining moment, and it is important for us in the downstream sector to fully appreciate the developments upstream and midstream,”she said, adding that the tour will help strengthen partnerships and enable Vivo Energy to continue driving sustainable energy solutions aligned with Uganda’s growth plans.
This visit follows a recently formalised joint venture between Vivo Energy Uganda and the Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) to develop Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) storage infrastructure at Kabalega Industrial Park.
The facility will support LPG integration from the refinery and upstream gas projects, with the goal of increasing household LPG use to 20% by 2030 and reducing reliance on biomass fuels.
According to Mr. Valery Okecho, Corporate Communications Manager at Vivo Energy Uganda, the visit is a strategic step toward aligning downstream investments with national oil developments.
“For the downstream sector, this visit is about building stronger connections across the entire petroleum value chain. We expect to gain a deeper appreciation of how upstream and midstream projects will shape future fuel supply, LPG uptake, and downstream innovation,” he said.
He noted that the expected outcomes include clearer infrastructure investment opportunities, especially in LPG storage, and stronger alignment with national energy priorities.
The LPG project at Kabalega Industrial Park is expected to create jobs, boost local content, and improve access to clean cooking energy, contributing to public health and environmental conservation targets.
The strategic visit highlights Vivo Energy’s commitment to innovation and partnership as Uganda moves closer to first oil, reaffirming its role in delivering safe, sustainable, and customer-focused energy solutions.
