I&M Bank Uganda and the Nnaabagereka Fund are joining forces to host the first Queen's Ball, a prestigious event aimed at raising awareness and support for mental health issues affecting women, youth, and children in Uganda.

This initiative comes at a critical time. According to a 2023 report by the Uganda Counselling Association, an estimated 32% of Ugandans, or roughly 14 million people, suffer from mental illness. This number is significantly higher than previously reported figures.

Robin Bairstow, CEO of I&M Bank Uganda, emphasized the bank's commitment to social responsibility through this partnership. "Mental health is a critical issue," Bairstow stated, "and we aim to make a positive impact alongside the Nnaabagereka Fund."

Her Royal Highness, Nnaabagereka Sylvia Nagginda Luswata, highlighted the Nnaabagereka Fund's role in providing support for mental health, education, healthcare, and economic empowerment since its founding in 2022.

"Together," Nnaabagereka said, "we can combat stigma, advocate for mental health, and create lasting change." The Queen's Ball, scheduled for May 9, 2024, will bring together influential figures like entrepreneurs, executives, and diplomats to raise awareness for this important cause.

The urgency for action is underscored by a report in BMJ Global Health, which reveals a critical shortage of mental health resources in Uganda. With only one psychiatrist for every million people and limited services concentrated in urban areas, vast portions of the population, particularly in rural areas, lack access to proper mental healthcare.

The Queen's Ball presents a promising opportunity to address this gap. By uniting resources and raising awareness, I&M Bank Uganda and the Nnaabagereka Fund aim to shine a light on mental health and pave the way for a brighter future for all Ugandans.
