In a bid to curb the Ebola epidemic the Ministry of public health of the democratic republic of Congo has launched Ebola vaccinations for high risk populations in the Ebola hit North Kivu Province.
Such interventions coupled with Uganda’s Ministry of Health initiatives is what, Uganda banks on to safe guard its populations against the deadly viral hemorrhagic fevers.
The checks come amidst an increase in Ebola alerts in Uganda. With ministry of health now awaiting laboratory results of a man in uniform who was admitted at Kigtum Hospital with susceptible signs.
The minister of health, Jane Ruth Aceng reports that since the outbreak in Democratic republic of Congo, Uganda has recorded an increase in community alerts of suspected Ebola.
“The alerts are over 5000, these are recorded, we have a system that quickly analyses the alerts and which ever alert is not a worry,” she said.
A total of 44 cases have been reported so far in Democratic republic of Congo , of which 17 have been confirmed.
“There are huge markets at these borders, there is a team from the DRC that we are working with to make sure there are routine screening facilities for whoever is coming in and out of Congo,” she added.
The ministry is also still waiting for results from Centre for diseases control in Atlanta on the strange disease that has claimed lives in Mubende
