Speaking during a Nansana Division Council sitting where committee chairpersons were elected, Mugabi condemned the practice, describing it as illegal and a violation of public trust.
“There are health workers who are asking patients for money, especially pregnant women seeking medical services. This is against the law, and we are going to arrest and ensure those responsible are disciplined,” Mugabi said.
He warned that the division leadership would not tolerate corruption in public health facilities and pledged to work with relevant authorities to protect residents from exploitation.
Mugabi said patients should be able to access government health services without being subjected to illegal charges by health workers.
During the same council meeting, Nansana Government Internal Security Officer (GISO) Faruk Mutendwa urged councillors to prioritise the security and welfare of residents by avoiding protection of criminal elements in their communities.
“Do not protect criminals who disrupt peace in your areas. Put aside political differences and work together to serve the people who elected you,” Mutendwa said.
Meanwhile, Nansana Division Council Speaker Isaac Kasule pledged to promote unity among leaders to improve service delivery.
“We are committed to leading without conflict so that the people of Nansana receive the quality services they deserve,” Kasule said.
The leaders made the commitments as the newly constituted council outlined priorities aimed at strengthening governance, improving public services and enhancing accountability across Nansana Division.
