St. Francis Hospital Nsambya marked World Prematurity Day with a charity run aimed at raising awareness and funding for its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
The event focused on strengthening care for preterm newborns and supporting the hospital’s plan to expand its capacity.
The run was led by Dr Sabrina Kitaka, a long-time advocate for child health who served as Chief Runner.
Participants rallied behind this year’s global theme, "Give preterm babies a strong start for a brighter future", with organisers stressing the need for early and specialised care for vulnerable infants.
Hospital officials said the goal is to improve equipment and space within the NICU so that premature babies have the support they need to survive and recover.
Organisers described the event as a collective effort to ensure more babies receive timely treatment.
The Movit Foundation backed the campaign with an 8 million donation, which will go toward purchasing an infusion pump for the unit.
The hospital said the contribution brings them closer to improving essential services for newborns who require intensive care.
