Government Official Advises Dokolo Residents on Parish Development Model in Uganda
n Uganda's Dokolo District, a government official, Mr. Owiny Alfred Thopacu, advised residents of Bata sub-county on maximizing the Parish Development Model (PDM) program.
Residents were urged to carefully choose businesses to benefit from the program's low-interest loans. These loans boast a generous 2-year grace period before repayments begin, with a low 10% interest rate. Notably, repaid funds are cycled back into the community through a local Savings and Credit Cooperative (SACCO) for future borrowers. This fosters self-sufficiency within the community.
The program is undergoing improvements based on past experiences. Previously, some SACCO chairs distributed funds improperly, favouring acquaintances. Thankfully, these mistakes were rectified. Ms. Barbara Akech, the Dokolo Resident District Commissioner, assured residents that all wrongly distributed funds were recovered and returned to those who deserved them.
