n Uganda's Dokolo District, a government official, Mr. Owiny Alfred Thopacu, advised residents of Bata sub-county on maximizing the Parish Development Model (PDM) program.

Residents were urged to carefully choose businesses to benefit from the program's low-interest loans. These loans boast a generous 2-year grace period before repayments begin, with a low 10% interest rate. Notably, repaid funds are cycled back into the community through a local Savings and Credit Cooperative (SACCO) for future borrowers. This fosters self-sufficiency within the community.

The program is undergoing improvements based on past experiences. Previously, some SACCO chairs distributed funds improperly, favouring acquaintances. Thankfully, these mistakes were rectified. Ms. Barbara Akech, the Dokolo Resident District Commissioner, assured residents that all wrongly distributed funds were recovered and returned to those who deserved them.

Residents expressed their gratitude to President Museveni for launching the PDM program, acknowledging the positive impact it has had on their lives.

The meeting highlighted the government's commitment to responsible implementation of the PDM program. By focusing on proper business selection, transparent loan distribution, and community reinvestment, the PDM aims to empower residents and improve their livelihoods in Dokolo District.
