Kayihura says police code of conduct will handle Kirumira

Featured

The Inspector General of Police, Gen.Kale Kayihura has for the first time spoken out on circumstances surrounding former Old Kampala and Buyende DPC Muhammad Kirumira.

Last week, Kirumira announced he had exited the police force  over what he termed as witch hunt before accusing a number of officers of being involved in crime but was arrested and detained at Nalufenya.

On Monday, Kayihura first dodged questions from journalists about Kirumira before later opening up.

"Please don't drag me into Kirumira's issues,"the police boss told journalists at the Imperial Golf View hotel in Entebbe during  a five day training for crime intelligence officers.

When probed more, he opened up saying that the embattled police officer is facing court before referring journalists to the police tribunal headed by Denis Odongpiny.

"There is a code of conduct. His indiscipline will be handled by that,"he said.

Kirumira was on Thursday forcefully arrested by police after breaking into his house and was later detained at Nalufenya detention centre in Jinja district.

Police last week warned the public against being sympathetic to Kirumira whom they accused of not complying with the force’s code of conduct.

“This should inform and sound a warning to the rest of us in the force to maintain discipline and we must play by rules of engagement,”police spokesperson Emilian Kayima said in a statement.

He described as gross indiscipline amounting to a scandalous conduct, the act by Kirumira to run to the media to express his views.
