In a significant move towards environmental restoration and sustainable development, TotalEnergies EP Uganda and the National Forestry Authority (NFA) have launched a tree planting initiative aimed at rehabilitating 38 hectares of degraded forest land within the Jubiya Central Forest Reserve (CFR) in Masaka City.
The project began with the planting of 450 indigenous tree seedlings, marking the first phase of a long-term collaboration focused on regenerating forest cover, enhancing biodiversity, and combating climate change.
The initiative aligns with Uganda's broader environmental resilience goals and complements the NFA’s strategic plan to green the country's forest landscape.
During the launch, Ms. Nekesa Esther, Range Manager at the NFA, expressed gratitude for the support from TotalEnergies.
“This partnership exemplifies the kind of multi-stakeholder collaboration needed to restore Uganda’s natural resources. It supports our strategic objectives and reinforces our commitment to sustainable forest management,” she said.
TotalEnergies, a global multi-energy company committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, reiterated its pledge to environmental stewardship.
“Sustainability is at the core of our operations, and reforestation initiatives like this are essential to achieving our climate goals while creating long-term value for communities and ecosystems,” stated a representative from the TotalEnergies team.
Juliet Mubi, the NFA Public Relations Officer, highlighted that the partnership between TotalEnergies and NFA reflects a growing recognition of the private sector's role in environmental conservation.
“It underscores the importance of aligning corporate sustainability strategies with national and global climate targets,” she said.
