Singer Vyroota arrested for procuring an abortion

Singer Vyroota, whose real name is Musigazi Abdulaziz, has been arrested on charges related to procuring an abortion.
Reports indicate that Vyroota, 20, impregnated a young woman but was unwilling to take responsibility when notified.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed the singer's arrest during an interview with Sanyuka Television on Thursday.
Onyango stated that the singer not only neglected to support the girl but, with the assistance of his manager, Walugembe, pressured her into seeking an abortion, which caused significant distress to her and her family.
Both Vyroota and his manager are currently in custody as investigations continue.
According to Article 22, item 2 of the Ugandan Constitution, terminating the life of an unborn child is prohibited unless authorized by law.
The Penal Code of 1950 states in Section 141, "Attempts to procure abortion": states that any person who, with intent to procure the miscarriage of a woman whether she is or is not with child, unlawfully administers to her or causes her to take any poison or other noxious thing, or uses any force of any kind, or uses any other means, commits a felony and is liable to imprisonment for fourteen years.
Additionally, Section 142 of the Penal Code of 1950 states that attempting to procure an unlawful abortion can result in a seven-year prison sentence, while Section 143 imposes a penalty of up to three years for anyone who assists in performing an unlawful abortion.
