The Madhvani Foundation has launched its scholarship program for the 2025/26 academic year, offering Shs750 million in financial aid to university students across Uganda.
This initiative is aimed at strengthening Uganda's higher education sector by providing crucial support to deserving students.
Gerald Ssendawula, board chairperson of the Madhvani Foundation and former Finance Minister, emphasized the foundation’s dedication to supporting students in diverse fields.
The scholarship will benefit students pursuing degrees in agriculture, biology, chemistry, commerce, engineering, food science and technology, information technology, hotel management, pharmacy, nursing, architecture, veterinary medicine, actuarial science, environmental studies, and human medicine.
“This scholarship program goes beyond financial assistance; it is an investment in the future leaders, innovators, and changemakers of our world,” said Ssendawula.
“The founders of this initiative believed in the transformative power of education, and it reflects their strong commitment to promoting equality and inclusivity.”
Since its establishment in 2003, the Madhvani Foundation has supported over 2,500 Ugandan students, contributing billions of shillings to their academic journeys.
The initiative helps bridge the financial gap for talented undergraduate and postgraduate students who face challenges in financing their education.
“I want to acknowledge the generosity and patriotism of the Madhvani Group. Despite the temptation to reinvest these funds into their business ventures, they have chosen to invest in the future of Uganda by supporting the education of its youth,” Ssendawula added.
Beatrice Apoto, the administrator of the scholarship program, noted that 180 students benefited from the initiative last year, and a similar number is expected to receive support this year.
To qualify, undergraduate applicants must have completed at least their first year of university, while master’s degree applicants must be registered or admitted to their respective programs.
A dedicated selection committee, chaired by Anthony Buteere, will oversee the review of applications. The deadline for submission is April 30, 2025.
With this significant financial commitment, the Madhvani Foundation continues to play a pivotal role in empowering Uganda’s next generation of professionals and leaders by removing financial barriers to higher education.
