Mbale Secondary School is marking its 75th anniversary, celebrating a rich legacy of academic excellence and community impact. Established in 1949, the school has nurtured generations of leaders, innovators, and professionals who have made significant contributions across various fields.

The year-long celebrations officially commenced on Friday with a procession through Mbale town, setting the stage for a series of commemorative events leading up to the grand celebration in June. Students, staff, and stakeholders took to the streets in a vibrant display of the school’s heritage and collective pride.

One of the key highlights of the celebrations is the unveiling of a new school bus, purchased through parents’ contributions to enhance student transportation and facilitate study tours.

Headteacher Moses Buyela announced that the school has lined up various community initiatives, including cleaning campaigns, blood donation drives, and a mini-marathon, to engage the broader community in the festivities.

A major highlight of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations will be the groundbreaking ceremony for a Shs 4 billion Science and Technology Hub. “This facility will house state-of-the-art ICT, science, and innovation labs, providing students with modern learning spaces that foster creativity and academic excellence,” Buyela said.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to grace the grand celebrations as the guest of honor.

Stakeholders have lauded the school’s legacy. Rt. Bishop Samwiri Wabulakha commended the administration for its dedication to preserving the institution’s heritage and emphasized the importance of leadership continuity in ensuring long-term progress.

Mbale Resident City Commissioner Asumin Nasike praised the school for its emphasis on student discipline and proactive leadership under the head teacher’s guidance.

Mbale City Mayor Cassim Namugali also extended his congratulations, applauding the school and parents for prioritizing the purchase of a school bus rather than relying on external donations. He further expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming Science and Technology Hub, highlighting its potential to enhance the city’s infrastructure and advance education in the region.
